Hidden Hills is a private retreat, rented as a whole, in Țipărești, Prahova County, Romania, about an hour from Bucharest. It has a private indoor pool heated to 30°C all year round. From December to February or March, while it is freezing outside and snow falls over the forest, the water stays as warm as it is in July.
In winter, the indoor pool comes into its own
In summer, almost every holiday house around Bucharest has a pool. From October, though, outdoor pools are covered and stay that way until May. Indoor ones are usually in hotels, with fixed opening hours and water shared with strangers.
A heated indoor pool that is yours alone, in the middle of winter, is hard to find. That is why winter is not the off-season for us. It is a season in its own right, and the time of year when the pool matters most.
You come back from a walk in the snow, hands frozen, and step into water at 30°C. The change in temperature is felt through your whole body, and the city suddenly feels very far away.
What to know about the pool
- Temperature: around 30°C, every day of the year
- Private: the retreat is rented as a whole, so the pool is for your group only
- No schedule: use it whenever you like during your stay
- Ready for you: sun loungers, pool towels and slippers in the house
- The house: 5 bedrooms, up to 10 guests, heating in every room
The only thing you need to bring is a swimming costume. In winter, it is the first thing everyone forgets.
